Corporate Accountability in the context of Human Rights and Climate Change in Thailand
December 2023
Manushya Foundation submitted a new report responding to a call for inputs to inform the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights in the context of climate change on Corporate accountability in the context of human rights and climate change. The report aims to inform the Special Rapporteur’s report that will be presented to the 56th session of the UN Human Rights Council in 2024.
Our report ‘Corporate Accountability in the context of Human Rights and Climate Change in Thailand’ dives into Thailand’s business and human rights framework which currently lacks mandatory Human Rights and environmental Due Diligence (mHRDD) and has no protection for human rights defenders when faced with strategic lawsuits against public participation (SLAPP). Additionally, respecting the rights of indigenous communities is not required under the framework. Furthermore, the report explores Thailand's problematic carbon market, which is a false solution and is harming indigenous communities.
