OPEN LETTER: EQUATOR BANKS, ACT! – STOP FINANCING CLIMATE DISASTERS; RESPECT INDIGENOUS PEOPLES' RIGHTS

11 NOVEMBER 2019

Manushya Foundation joined 312 international civil society organisations in an open letter calling Equator banks to act with ambition and courage, by publishing new Equator Principles that will no longer allow the financing of disaster projects, ahead of the annual meeting of the Equator Principles Association (EPA) in Singapore on November 18-20.

The open letter urges all Equator Principles Financial Institutions (EPFIs) to respect their commitments under the proposed new Equator Principles and stop financing coal, oil and gas extraction and infrastructure projects. The projects are very often located on the lands and territories of Indigenous Peoples that did not give permission for these projects to proceed, leading to serious environmental and human rights violations.
