30th July 2024, World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

#EndHumanTrafficking šŸšøšŸŒ Globally, one in three trafficking victims is a child, with girls being the majority. The UNODC Global Report reveals that children are twice as likely to face violence during trafficking. They suffer from forced labor, sexual abuse, illegal adoption, and more. Major factors include that perpetuate human trafficking include poverty, armed conflicts, dysfunctional families, and inadequate parental care. šŸ“‰šŸ†˜

šŸ›‘ In an era of economic uncertainty, many from working-class backgrounds relocate for what they believe will be lucrative employment, only to fall victim to sophisticated trafficking networks. These traffickers exploit economic desperation and the unregulated digital landscape, forcing children into modern-day slavery. šŸšØšŸ†˜

šŸ“Š The 2022 UNODC Global Report on Trafficking in Persons, covering 141 countries, highlights trends during the COVID-19 pandemic and reveals a troubling rise in online exploitation. Children are recruited into forced labor, forced begging, and even armed groups. The lack of safe, legitimate working opportunities fuels this crisis. šŸŒšŸ“‰

šŸ’¬āœļø Effective measures require international cooperation, stronger laws, and addressing root causes like poverty and inequality. Special attention is needed for unaccompanied refugee minors. Strengthening child protection networks and adapting criminal law to childrenā€™s needs are crucial steps. This year marks the 10th World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, focusing on raising awareness of child trafficking and urging action to #EndHumanTrafficking. šŸ“¢āš–ļø
