#CollectiveCare ✊At the end of the day, we are still, and always will be, the Global Majority. #GlobalSouth

🥶 It goes without saying that President Donald Trump’s 2025 Foreign Aid Funding Freeze and Stop Work Order have had a deeply destabilizing effect on our community. As part of our weekend series on collective care, we reflect on how systemic oppression, as demonstrated through recent events, have affected the collective wellbeing of…
...our team,
...the grassroots and local organizing community,
...our Southeast Asian relatives, and
...the Global Majority collective...
..and engage in conversations around how to hold each other through these tumultuous times.
💰 We must acknowledge the elephant in the room: Foreign aid has long been weaponized as part of elite, Imperialist systems to control and destabilize the Global Majority. This funding freeze is a prime example of this weaponization. Since the 1900s, despite the ‘end’ of imperial rule in many Global Majority nations, ‘Imperialism’ simply evolved into new forms. The system of ‘foreign aid,’ where the Global Minority still gatekeeps resources and dictates how it is used, and the Global Majority is made reliant on it, is neocolonialism in action.
💗🩷Manushya Foundation is no stranger to this, and our work has long involved strategizing to dismantle this system, and to demand true reparations - but as we know, decolonization cannot happen overnight, and we need more solidarity and sustained effort to make our goals a reality. There is so much work that needs to be done to resist systemic oppression, in all of its forms. We take this moment to reflect on how we can do better. We recognize our limitations. We keep (un)learning, and moving forward. We will continue to educate and lead discourse - look out for future posts from us on these topics!
🤝 But first and foremost, we take a moment to be human, and show compassion and solidarity with each other. In light of recent events, we grieve, feel, and heal, alongside millions of...
...people of historically under-recognised groups,
...on-the-ground activists,
...local communities,
...refugees and other displaced peoples,
...healthcare providers, nonprofit workers...
…and many, many others who now know (or have long known) that the current oppressive system we live under was created inequitably, against our favor.
🫂 Nevertheless, amidst a world full of distractions and despair, we must choose to face and feel our grief and anger - so we can use it as fuel to move ourselves forward:
We allow ourselves to feel, and stay grounded in our humanity.
The events of the past few weeks have been heavy on the soul, and on our relations. We show our unconditional compassion for ourselves, and those around us, during these times.
Our community is full of some of the most dedicated, talented, collective-driven, giving, and loving people. We do powerful, essential, life-saving, courageous work. This does not stop being true even if we have been told to ‘stop work. Our work is vital, and will continue.
We release ourselves from unrealistic expectations, recognize our limitations, and remind ourselves that we should not have to carry everything alone.
Change is inevitable. We will adapt.
We validate, without judgment, the feelings of heartbreak that can come from the cancellation of long-term projects and campaigns, after pouring months, even years, our blood, sweat, and tears into them. But remember: it was not all for nothing. Progress is not linear!
We validate, without judgment, the feelings of fear, despair, and confusion caused from losing sources of shelter, security, and financial support. This is injustice. Every human deserves their needs met. We fight this injustice by showing up for each other, with compassion.
The Global Minority knows the power of the Global Majority. If we were not so powerful, there would not be coordinated efforts to try to stop us from realizing our potential.
We come from long lines of resilient humans. We are here today because our ancestors did not give up. We honor our ancestors by continuing to exist, and doing our very best, every day.
We continue to demand that our material needs are met, and for long-awaited reparations.
We feel our grief so that we can channel it into action.
❤️ Global Minority elite will have to try harder to stop us than with their silly little ‘Stop Work’ orders and withholding our wealth (yes, ‘our' wealth, stolen through generations of Imperialism). We have many things that the parasitic imperialists do not have, and will never take away from us. We have solidarity for one another. We have unconditional love. We have Indigenous claims to our lands and cultures. We have long lines of ancestral wisdom. We have forgiveness, patience, and collective healing. We have our grief, joy, and our embrace of the full spectrum of human emotions.
🫶 They can take our funding, but they cannot take our spirits, and together, we will rebuild. The oppressor knows how much power we hold. If they didn’t, they wouldn’t work so hard to try to break us. In numbers, soul, and collective power, we are the Global Majority. Let's act like we know it!
