#CollectiveLiberation 💡Dreaming of a reality by us, for us. The sooner we start building the world we want, the sooner we can start living in it!

Writer: Manushya FoundationManushya Foundation

In a world currently filled with so much wounding, it is human to be intimidated while thinking about all the work that needs to be done. But we need to start somewhere. The world we want isn’t gonna build itself! Let’s take it step by step, and carefully plan our blueprint for a better future, asking the important questions and having the important conversations...

1) Identifying the Issues:

What are we trying to fight and dismantle?

  • Elitist, oppressive leaders who would happily sacrifice the livelihoods of the Global Majority to satisfy their uncontrollable hunger for power and capital.

  • Various, interconnected, long-standing systems of oppression and injustice.

  • The effects of systemic injustice on people of the Global Majority.

  • The active destruction and disrespect of the Earth, and its inhabitants.

  • Repression and policing, and other obstacles to justice.

2) Radical Acceptance:

Accepting our current reality, and our human limitations

It is a lot to radically accept the magnitude of the obstacles in our way - but in order for us to stay focused without succumbing to despair, we need to face the truth that the current dictators of our reality have decided, consciously, to build it based on fear-driven hatred, division, and individualism. These are the values they are driven by. Of course they do not care if we live or die. They are not like us!

They have also made it clear that they will not defer their power even when ‘asked nicely.’

We cannot rely on the Global Minority to help us meet our needs - we take responsibility for our own futures, based on our visions. Our lifetimes are limited, and there is no time to waste waiting for the Global Minority to defer power or catch up to us. We radically accept that there is no guarantee we will live to see the changes we want, or the fruits of our labor, during our lifetimes - but we do the work regardless, out of love for humanity.

3) Know what we want to change:

How will we do better? How do we sustain our ideal reality?

If we think we can do better than the current establishment, we need to lay down strong foundations, and set clear intentions. If we can’t even explain what our so-called liberated, ‘better’ reality looks like, and what it will be founded upon, what more is it than a dream?

If we do not collectively take action, now, to imagine the reality we want, we might as well step aside and allow the same systemic oppression to take over again, even if it comes wearing a new mask. If we want better, it’s going to take a conscious, creative, collective effort to challenge the status quo, staying true to our foundations.

Some questions to consider:

  • What will be different about our ‘better reality?’

  • How will we avoid replicating the hateful, fear-driven, divisive systems of the current oppressors?

  • How will we sustain it, and continue evolving?

4) Embrace responsibility:

The world we want isn’t gonna build itself!

All Empires Must Fall. The current world order is no exception. Nothing, including the empire itself, can control when, or how, it will fall. We can only plan how we will build out of the fallen empire’s ashes, and move forward, to the best of our ability.

Some questions to consider:

  • How will we execute our visions?

  • What roles will we play?

  • How will we navigate obstacles and setbacks?

  • What systems do we have in place for accountability, care, and repair?

5) Honor the past, fight for the future:

Thank you, as always, to our ancestors and relations

As we look to the future, we will always honor all who came before us, whose dreaming and imagination led us to where we are today, and from whom we draw our inspiration. Shoutout to all the Black, queer, disabled, mad, Indigenous futurists as well as other wise thinkers and culture workers of the Global Majority!

Until we take proactive steps to put our money and effort where our mouth is, we will have to continue living under this reality. It’s time we escalated our efforts - we will commit to showing up, even if imperfectly, because it is better than not showing up at all.

Let’s keep this conversation going! Stay tuned for next week’s topic: How can we lay down strong foundations of liberatory love and interconnected struggle while we imagine, and build a more harmonious world?

The sooner we start building the world we want, the sooner we can start living in it!
