#ComingOutDay: Coming out is not for everyone and that’s OK!
🏳️🌈 #ComingOutDay 🗓 Coming out is not for everyone and that’s OK!
📢 One of the most significant milestones in many LGBTIQ+ people’s lives is their coming out, where they let the world know that their sexual orientations or gender identities are different from what is expected of them. On October 11 every year, we celebrate their courage in embracing and standing by their true selves.
⚖️ More than an individual act of bravery, coming out started as a tool for political activism in America in the 1980s. Activists believed that if people knew that someone close to them was LGBTQ+, they would be more likely to support equality under the law.
📌 However, it is crucial we remember that coming out is not safe for everyone. Hatred and bigotry towards LGBTQ+ individuals are still rampant in many parts of the world, and being openly queer could cost them their mental health and physical safety. No one should be forced to go public about their identities. If an LGBTQ+ person never comes out, it does not mean they are not comfortable in their own skin.
#WeAreManushyan ♾ Equal Human Beings
✊Manushya Foundation will always stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community, whether you have come out, are considering it, or are waiting for the right time. When heterosexuality is the norm, being LGBTQ+ will never be easy. Coming out should always be on your own terms, and you are valid exactly as you are.
