#DecolonisingWellbeing 💝Earth- and wallet-friendly gift ideas for our loved ones!

💰#CapitalistChristmas and the holiday season is upon us again, a time where companies bombard us with endless #HolidayDeals and temptations to encourage us to spend money. While we place no judgement in the #Human desire for #Material goods once in a while, #Balance is important, as well as a consciousness surrounding our spending and #Consumption habits. We believe some of the best #Gifts are ones made with #Renewable materials, with #Love, by people who care. We also believe that if we truly believe in #Equity and #CollectiveCare, we need to begin emphasizing the value of human labour and #Connection, and decentering value placed on #Wealth and price tags.

🎁The value of a gift does not only lie in its #Price! In times of economic instability, and as wars and genocides fuelled by #Overconsumption and the inequitable power held by the world’s elite rage on, let’s turn inward and invest in what matters. Check out our slides for some gift ideas that are low-cost in terms of price, but high-value in terms of care, thought, respect for our environment, investment into our local communities, and ethical consciousness. Whether it be an eco-friendly, boycott-safe gift purchased from a local artist…

🤲 …or finding ways to #RedistributeWealth to those who could need it as part of collective care, let's do what we can to resist consuming more than we need to be this season.

🌏Let’s not forget that #Festivities during this season, such as those of Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and Christmas are deeply rooted in global cultures, and often serve the purpose of commemorating sacred moments, celebrating with community, and reminding ourselves of what really matters to us as humans. Amidst the noise of pro-consumption propaganda, let’s pay our respects to our own cultures, as well as those of others, by staying thoughtful about how we engage with this season. Gifting, spending, and consuming are not the only ways to celebrate the holiday season - let’s also remember to celebrate by centering humanity, our Earth, mindfulness, and collective care!
