#DemocracyDay 🌐 International Day of Democracy 2024: AI for Good Governance 🌍

Did you know that this year’s focus of International Democracy Day, observed annually on September 15, is on Artificial Intelligence as a tool for good governance? While AI can enhance participation, equality, and security, it also poses harmful risks like misinformation, discrimination and the spread of hate speech if left unchecked. Effective AI governance is crucial at all levels to harness its benefits safely.

🇹🇭 Thai Digital Rights: A Struggle for Internet Freedom and Democracy

In Thailand, internet freedom remains heavily restricted. Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the government discredited opposition members using state-sponsored disinformation and targeted pro democracy activists through arrests, surveillance, and harassment. The Computer-related Crimes Act (CCA) is used to block websites and remove content, while the lèse-majestÊ law (Section 112) continues to impose harsh prison sentences on those criticizing the monarchy online. Despite the end of the emergency decree related to the COVID-19 pandemic in September 2022, cases against individuals charged under its provisions continue.

As we come together to celebrate the International Day of Democracy, let’s remember that democracy isn’t just a system, it's the essence of freedom and the right to be heard. 🌍🗣️ Freedom of expression is the spark that lights the way toward an open, fair, and inclusive world for everyone. 🌈✨

💪🤝 On this important day, let's stand in solidarity and united ✊🏽 Let’s work across generations to create a future where every voice matters, every right is respected, and technology serves as a tool for liberation, not oppression. 🌱🌐
