Extreme Heat Disparately Effects Low Income Communities: Exploring Klong Toey in Bangkok

📢🌍 In an article published on the 11th of July 2024, SEI (Stockholm Environment Institute) highlighted the severe impact of extreme heat on the low-income community of Klong Toey in Bangkok. Residents face unbearably high indoor temperatures due to poor housing insulation and ventilation, exacerbating health issues such as heat exhaustion and disrupted sleep. Despite using coping mechanisms like water sprinklers, these solutions fall short. Comprehensive urban cooling strategies, including better urban planning and increased green spaces, are urgently needed to protect these vulnerable populations. 🌳💧

🛑 Community engagement and social support are vital in helping Klong Toey adapt to rising temperatures. Collaborative efforts between local authorities, NGOs, and the local community can drive sustainable change and improve living conditions.

💬✍️ It’s crucial to advocate for better urban planning and social support to address the extreme heat challenges in low-income communities. Support initiatives promoting urban cooling and improved infrastructure to make a difference.
