Happy #InternatinalLesbianDay: Lesbian Rights are Human Rights!

(TH below)

📅 October 8 marks the #InternationalLesbianDay! On this day, we celebrate all the amazing people who identify as lesbians, including gender non-conforming lesbians, non-binary lesbians, trans lesbians, he/him lesbians and everyone who uses lesbian as an identity!

📌 It is also an important opportunity for honoring the diversity, culture, and lesbian HERstory!

đŸ„ Did you know that the L in #LGBTQ+ comes first for an important, historical reason? Lesbians have been acknowledged within the queer community for their role as caretakers during the AIDS crisis! In 1983, lesbians across America formed "Blood Sisters" groups to help organize blood drives and took care of AIDS patients when everyone else was scared to.

⚠ However, almost 40 years later, lesbians are still facing prejudice, discrimination, and rejection despite increasing visibility in various parts of society. “You haven’t found the right man yet!” “Are you this way because you hate men?” “Who is the top, and who is the bottom?” – these are only a few examples of harmful words that are regularly invalidating lesbians today.

đŸ“ș Not to mention the fact that in our patriarchal world, lesbians are disproportionately treated as sex objects who exist solely for the pleasure of cisgender heterosexual men, while their rights continue to be denied and neglected.

🔈Let this day be the day we fight dangerous narratives, respect people for who they are, and show support for our lesbian friends in their fight for #EqualRights! Lesbian Rights Are Human Rights!

✊ Manushya Foundation will always stand in solidarity with lesbians & the LGBTQIAN+ community, in particular ethnic minority lesbians, lesbians with disabilities, lesbians of color, asexual and aromantic lesbians, or lesbians who are still in the closet. We see you, and we value your existence!
