Human Rights Groups call on the EU to push Vietnam to respect free speech!

📢🌍Advocating for Change: The EU-Viet Nam Human Rights Dialogue

The 12th EU-Viet Nam Human Rights Dialogue, held on July 4, 2024, in Brussels, highlighted pressing concerns over freedom of expression in Viet Nam. Manushya Foundation, the ASEAN Regional Coalition to #StopDigitalDictatorship, joined forces with ARTICLE 19 and allied organizations to call on the EU to urge Viet Nam to repeal repressive laws stifling free speech and to end harassment of journalists and activists.

🛑 Key Concerns

Viet Nam's Penal Code, Cybersecurity Law, and Decree 72 restrict freedom of expression, leading to persecution of dissenting voices. These laws undermine international human rights standards and have resulted in the imprisonment of journalists and activists like Phạm Đoan Trang.

🌐EU's Role

As a global advocate for human rights, the EU must pressure the Vietnamese government Viet Nam to align its laws with international standards, ensuring protection for freedom of expression and association. Supporting civil society and engaging with the tech sector are crucial steps toward promoting human rights in Viet Nam.

❤️Action Needed

Join us in urging the EU to demand legislative reforms in Viet Nam and to support those fighting for justice. Together, we can amplify the call for human rights protection and create meaningful change in Viet Nam. Stand with us in this crucial fight for freedom of expression!
