Joint Solidarity Statement: #SaveMyanmar #StopDigitalDictatorship

#SaveMyanmar: We need to stand in solidarity with the people of Myanmar to fight against rising dictatorship, both online and offline!

On February 1st, the people of Myanmar had their votes and their voices disregarded by the Myanmar military, also know as Tatmadaw. The military overthrew the government which had been elected by over 83 percent of the voters! We condemn the illegal coup d'etat and the violence of the military used to create an environment of fear and to crackdown on dissenting voices including journalists, activists and political leaders democratically elected following an election on 8 November 2020! We also accuse the military-led attempt to censor everyone by shutting down the internet to stop people from telling the world #WhatIsHappeningInMyanmar!

No matter where we are from, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia or anywhere else, we must show that we will not surrender to military power! We will not surrender to dictatorship! And we will continue to fight until we have true democracy and freedom by supporting the #CivilDisobedienceMovement!

Manushya Foundation and our regional partners in the ASEAN Regional Coalition to #StopDigitalDictatorship stand in solidarity with civil society, independent media, and democratically elected representatives in Myanmar. We call for the Myanmar military to restore democratic rights and freedoms of all citizens, offline and online!
