#StandWithBach on January 24: 2 years have passed since his illegitimate sentence ⚖️
#StandWithBach ✊- January 24th marks two-years since Bach was falsely sentenced to five years in prison, with no probation. As we surpass two years of his incarceration, the ongoing struggle for the freedom of environmental activist Ding Dang Bach persists.
🧑⚖️ Bach, detained under Vietnam's ambiguous tax evasion laws, symbolizes the suppression of climate activists in a country committed to Net-Zero goals. Despite global outcry and his hunger strike, Bach continues to endure deplorable treatment.
🇻🇳 Vietnam has experienced a troubling surge in stifling environmental activists using vague tax evasion laws; Bach's arrest preceded the detention of other notable activists such as Mai Phan Loi (arrested on June 24th 2021, released September 10th 2023), Bạch Hùng Dương (arrested June 21st 2021), Nguy Thi Khanh (arrested on January 11th 2022, released May 15th 2023), Hoang Thi Minh Hong (arrested May 31st 2023), and Ngo Thi To Nhien (arrested on September 15th 2023). Four out of six climate leaders, including Bach remain falsely imprisoned. In May 2023, The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention ruled Bach’s arrest and detention to be arbitrary.
⚖️ On this second anniversary, Manushya Foundation reaffirms our dedication to justice and calls for the liberation of climate leaders like Bach. We stand united against the suppression of environmental activists. A #JustEnergyTransition remains elusive as long as #ClimateLeaders are unjustly imprisoned!
