šŸšØšŸ•ŠļøTalibanā€™s Erasure of Women: Afghanistan's New Laws Bans Womenā€™s Voice and Face in Public āš ļøšŸ’”

šŸŒšŸ“œ Under Taliban rule, Afghanistan has enacted a draconian set of laws that systematically silence and erase women from public life. Approved by supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, these new regulations are part of a broader campaign to enforce "virtue" and eliminate "vice."

šŸ‘— The 114-page document outlines severe restrictions, including mandatory full-body veils and face coverings for women in public. These measures prohibiting even the slightest hint of individuality. Women's voices are also silencedā€”singing, reciting poetry, and reading aloud are banned, with the law considering these activities as ā€œintimateā€ and inappropriate for public settings.

šŸ›‘šŸš« The laws extend into everyday activities, banning music, solo female travel, and the mixing of unrelated men and women. Public transportation now requires women to be accompanied by male guardians, and both drivers and passengers must adhere to strict prayer schedules.Ā

šŸ“ˆšŸ†˜ These rules mark a significant escalation in the Taliban's repression of women, following previous bans on girls' education beyond sixth grade. The new legislation also empowers the ā€œpropagation of virtueā€ ministry to enforce these regulations through warnings, propertyĀ

āœŠšŸŒThe international community must take concrete actions to support Afghan women:

  • Support Refugee Programs: Increase funding and support for programs helping Afghan women escape and find safety.

  • Promote Global Awareness: Use media and diplomatic channels to raise awareness of the situation, putting pressure on international organizations to act.

  • Fund Humanitarian Efforts: Contribute to organizations providing aid and advocacy for women in Afghanistan, ensuring they have resources to resist and survive.
