We need freedom of expression for everyone, including monks!
(English below) 🚨 พระมหาไพรวัลย์ วรวณฺโณประกาศเตรียมลาสิกขาต้นเดือน ธ.ค. นี้ หลังบวชพระมากว่า 10 ปี พระมหาไพรวัลย์กลายเป็นกระแสบนโลกโซเชียลมีเดียในหมู่วัยรุ่นจากการไลฟ์เทศน์สอนธรรมะด้วยวิธีแปลกใหม่ สนุกสนานและเข้าใจง่าย แต่ท่านกลับกลายเป็นที่จับตามองจากคณะกรรมาธิการ (กมธ.) การศาสนา ศิลปะและวัฒนธรรม สภาผู้แทนราษฎร ที่ตั้งคำถามถึงความเหมาะสมในฐานะพระสงฆ์ เพียงเพราะท่านแสดงทัศนะถึงประเด็นการเมืองและสังคม รวมถึงสภาวะเสื่อมถอยของพระพุทธศาสนาในหมู่คนรุ่นใหม่ในปัจจุบัน
📍 เสรีภาพในการแสดงออกและความคิดเห็นนั้นถือเป็นรากฐานของสังคมเสรีประชาธิปไตยและเป็นกุญแจสำคัญที่จะนำไปสู่การพัฒนาและความก้าวหน้าของสังคม เนื่องจากเสรีภาพนี้เปิดโอกาสให้ผู้คนสามารถแสดงความคิดเห็นและถกเถียงในประเด็นที่มีความสำคัญต่อสาธารณะได้ ตามกฏหมายสิทธิมนุษยชน มนุษย์ ‘ทุกคน’ ย่อมมีสิทธิเสรีภาพที่จะแสดงออกและแสดงความคิดเห็นในทุกรูปแบบ รวมทั้งความคิดเห็นที่มีเนื้อหาทางศาสนาและศีลธรรมด้วย! หากความคิดเห็นของพวกเขาไม่ได้ยุยงให้เกิดความเกลียดชัง
✊🏼 รัฐบาลไทยต้องอำนวยความสะดวกและปกป้องพื้นที่สาธารณะสำหรับการแสดงความคิดเห็นตามหลักสากล ไม่ใช่ปิดปากประชาชนด้วยข้ออ้างปกป้องศีลธรรมของสังคม! และจะต้องปฏิบัติตามพันธะกรณีในกติการะหว่างประเทศว่าด้วยสิทธิพลเมืองและสิทธิทางการเมือง มาตราที่ 19 รวมไปถึงข้อแนะนำ(Recommendations)กว่า 18 ข้อจากกระบวนการทบทวนสถานการณ์สิทธิมนุษยชน ณ สหประชาชาติ (UPR) เมื่อวันที่ 10 พฤศจิกายนที่ผ่านมา ที่เรียกร้องให้รัฐบาลไทยปกป้องสิทธิเสรีภาพในการแสดงออกของประชาชน

#Thailand 🚨 Phra Maha Praiwan Worawano, who became famous among the youngsters for his unorthodox, yet fun and relatable Buddhist preaching on social media, announced this week he would leave monkhood in early December after living more than 10 years in saffron robe. He came under intense scrutiny from the House committee on religion, art and culture for incorporating youth slangs into his preaching, voicing his opinions on Thai political affairs, and noting the religion’s decline during a Live streaming.
📍 Freedom of Expression and Opinion is a foundation for a free and democratic society - an indispensable condition for the society to develop and progress as it allows people to form their own opinions on issues of public importance. Under international human rights law, EVERYONE shall have the right to free expression and to hold ALL forms of opinions, including those of religious and moral nature, except those instigating hatred!
✊🏼 The Thai government must facilitate and protect a free space for public debate and discussion in line with international human rights standards, instead of choking and silencing the people with a feeble excuse like defending public moral! Thailand must comply with Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), and must implement the 18 UPR recommendations it received on 10 November by UN member states to uphold freedom of expression!
