‼️ #WHRD Day! 👭✊ On this International Women Human Rights Defenders Day, we’re telling you about our recent win for Lao WHRDs!

Earlier this year, we submitted a shadow report for the CEDAW’s review of Laos. And, as expected, the Lao delegation showed up with their usual parade of excuses. Led by officials who’ve mastered the art of empty rhetoric, they tried to deflect attention from the government’s failures and mislead the Committee with tired talking points.

But thanks to our detailed CEDAW report exposing the Lao government’s lies, the Committee couldn’t ignore the truth. Their Concluding Observations called out the government’s failures to protect women’s rights and deliver on their promises.

This is a win for every woman whose voice has been silenced, every activist who’s been oppressed, and every community that’s been ignored. But this fight is far from over. We’ve made our mark, and now the pressure is on.
